Turon is a popular Filipino dessert or snack made with ripe saba banana slices rolled in brown sugar with strips of ripe jackfruit then wrapped in a spring roll shell and fried until golden brown and crispy 🔥🍌🌴 In this recipe, we will be using Wei-Chuan USA 's 6" spring roll shells, they are made thin so you can have crispier rolls but strong enough to hold different types of filling. 👩🍳
Place a piece of the spring roll shell/wrapper on your work surface. With one point of the wrapper facing you, grab one saba banana and place it horizontally at the lower end part of the wrapper. Coat the banana with brown sugar and add 2-3 strips of jackfruit.
Hold the lower tip of the wrapper and fold it over to cover the banana filling. Fold the sides as well, forming an envelope shape.
Using both hands, carefully tuck the edges and roll it into a log. Use the flour-water mixture to seal the upper tip of the wrapper. Repeat the process for the remaining ingredients.
In a frying pan, heat your cooking oil to 350°F. Fry the turon in batches until golden brown. This should take around 4-5 minutes. 5. Before taking it out from the fryer add some brown sugar for that extra sweetness to coat the outer layer of the banana rolls. 6. Drain in a cooling rack and serve warm.
